Art Residencies

The Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF) and the Centre for Contemporary Arts Tashkent (CCA Tashkent) are committed to preserving the historical mahallas of Tashkent and safeguarding their unique cultural and historical heritage through a strategic collaboration with Studio KO. This initiative highlights the government’s increased support for culture and the arts, aligning with broader efforts to foster a comfortable urban environment that respects and maintains the city’s authenticity. An art residency provides a dynamic platform for exchanging experiences, fostering intercultural dialogue, and creating collaborative artistic projects. This cultural exchange promotes mutual understanding between different communities. Artists participating in the residencies explore the history and unique character of the host country.

Residencies offer everything artists need to live and work comfortably. They provide creative studios, materials, and tools, as well as opportunities to engage with audiences and discuss the works produced during their stay. In Tashkent, the residencies feature well-equipped creative studios, living spaces, exhibition areas, a library, and co-working zones. The design concept, developed by Studio KO, meets international standards, ensuring a modern and inspiring environment. Studios give artists access to professional equipment and technical support, providing a variety of tools and materials for both traditional and digital practices. These spaces encourage experimentation, creation, and dialogue with fellow artists and the wider community. Co-working areas offer a collaborative environment where participants from different studios can prepare projects, present their work, or simply connect. Residents have access to computers with specialised software, comfortable furniture for a relaxed atmosphere, a library, and a kitchen with vending machines.

The Tashkent art residencies also serve as an educational platform for CCA Tashkent, running professional development programs for artists, alongside lectures and creative workshops throughout the year.

Residents are creative professionals eager to develop their skills, collaborate internationally, and advance their careers. They enjoy full access to all the resources of the art centre, fostering growth, creativity, and meaningful connections.
