Aziza Shaden is a British artist of Kazakh and Uzbek heritage, born in Uzbekistan and based in the UK since the age of 16. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, she works across painting, photography, moving image and installation, exploring identity, memory, migration and cultural displacement.

Shaden describes her work as visual absurdist poetry, using humour, absurdism and fragmentation to examine the tension between inherited histories and lived experience. Influenced by the avant-garde and the Theatre of the Absurd, her practice is grounded in a dialogue between Central Asian heritage and Western culture. More recently, she has focused on pattern and collage, drawing on Central Asian architectural motifs to reconfigure personal and cultural histories.

She has exhibited internationally, including at the 55th Venice Biennale, Sharjah Biennial 15, the Asian Art Biennial (Taiwan), Mill6CHAT (Hong Kong), Bukhara Biennial (2025), Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art (Doha) and EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, with a solo show at THE PILL, Istanbul (2025).
