The Callas

The Callas

Greek artists Lakis & Aris Ionas are the founders of The Callas, a multidisciplinary collective working across visual art, film, music, textile and performance. Their practice explores collective memory, collaboration, and the relationship between people, place and tradition. The brothers studied fine arts and film at Chelsea College of Arts in London, developing a visual language shaped by Mediterranean subcultures, post-punk aesthetics and traditional craft techniques.

As The Callas, they have exhibited and performed internationally at institutions including Documenta (Kassel), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), New Museum (New York), DESTE Foundation (Athens) and NADA Miami, and have collaborated with artists such as Lee Ranaldo and Jim Sclavunos. The artists live and work in Athens, Greece.

During their residency at CCA Artist Residencies, they will research Tashkent’s modernist architecture, historic mahallas and the Greek diaspora legacy, developing new site-specific works in collaboration with local craftspeople and performers.
