Art Basel

During the recent Art Basel edition in Switzerland, a conversation themed ‘Adaptive architecture, art and cultural memory’ organised by Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation was held as part of Art Basel Conversations. The discussion focused on how architecture and art can contribute to the understanding and preservation of cultural memory.
Special attention was paid to the forthcoming opening of the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Tashkent, which is housed in a historic industrial building from the early 20th century. This unique project, implemented by the Foundation together with the architectural bureau Studio KO, will become a new point of attraction on the cultural map of the region.
The session was attended by Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, as well as artists Muhannad Shono and Shokhrukh Rakhimov. The talk was moderated by Dr Sara Raza, Artistic Director and Chief Curator of the CCA.
