CCA Artist Residencies - Registration
25.10.2024
The Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) announces its inaugural Artist Residencies programme. This milestone marks an exciting new chapter in Uzbekistan’s growing contemporary art scene, reinforcing the country’s commitment to fostering creativity and cultural exchange.
The residency programme invites applications from artists, writers and researchers across the globe. The current open call runs until 5 January 2025, with residencies scheduled from 3 February to 30 March 2025.
Participants will have the unique opportunity to engage deeply with the vibrant Tashkent community, exploring local heritage and creating meaningful work in dialogue with Uzbekistan's cultural landscape. The programme is designed to run three times a year, welcoming emerging and established artists, including one Uzbek practitioner in each cohort, for an intensive eight-week residency.
The international selection committee will oversee applications and mentor the residents.
The residencies are located in Tashkent’s historic mahallas—Namuna and Khast Imom. These unique spaces combine traditional heritage with modern facilities. Namuna will host up to four artists working across various disciplines, while Khast Imom, featuring Central Asia’s first curatorial library, will accommodate one to two researchers or curators in a peaceful setting.
The residencies represent a major contribution to the local art scene, fostering dialogue and collaboration between international and Uzbek artists while preserving and revitalising cultural heritage.
